Dugan Kelly and Circle Back Jack are a powerhouse team on the PRCA circuit after overcoming a horrific accident.
“Circle was five years old when he had a sucker rod go clear through his chest [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][that] came out through the bottom of his belly,” Kelly said.
The extensiveness of the injury caused Circle to lose functionality in his end, making even daily movement a stretch.
“There was one vet that tould me he could fix him,” Kelly said, “He told me he had nerve damage, and secondary nerves could grow and learn how to operate his hind end just like his first nerves.”
So, under the veterinary guidance of Van Snow, Circle Back Jack and Dugan began the long road to recovery.
“He told me that [the nerves] had to grow and they had to learn how to function, just like a baby learns how to walk,” Kelly said, “Circle would have to learn how to do everthing all over again.”
About a year into Circle’s recovery, Dr. Van Snow was tragically lost in a plane crash.
“I kept up Vans instructions for another year until he was completely normal again,” Kelly said, “He was exactly right with his diagnosis and I wish he could have seen the results.”
Circle and Kelly are headed to the NFR in the #9 spot with $74,087 and was named the second place AQHA Horse of the Year in the heeling.
And even so many years later, Van Snow still makes an appearance in Dugan and Circle’s life.
“I am roping with Van’s boy, Cody Snow, at his first NFR,” Kelly said.
Circle Back Jack escaped death not once, but twice, when he underwent colic surgery in January of this year.
We sure are glad that he and Dugan Kelly are back at it! Good luck to them as they travel to the 2016 National Finals Rodeo![/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
