Best Ever team rider Caitlyn Wood and Spookdeville, “Caddy”, have hit the rodeo road hard the past couple of weeks, with buckles to show for it!
“I’ve been on the road a lot lately,” Wood said, “Recently we have been at Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][races]; two weekends ago we were in Woodland, where we won the second round and posted the fastest time of the weekend.”
Wood and Caddy heavily depend on their favorite veterinary hospital to keep him running his best, and just recently made another visit for a shoulder tear.
“Circle Oak brought in a machine by Pulsevet called Shockwave and with four treatments the tears were healed which was insanely quick,” Wood said, “We picked him up that Friday and he ran [at the California National High School Rodeo Finals] the next Tuesday. This machine is definitely a main reason why Caddy was able to not only go to State but to also qualify for the short go.”
Caddy is a powerhouse, and maintaining his health and mind is a top priority for Wood.
“Caddy is extremely extremely hot,” Wood said, “For 14.3 he’s very strong and has a huge ego. There’s not a mean bone in his body but when it’s go time, he knows it.”
Wood plans to continue hauling this summer, and looks forward to high school rodeo continuing in the fall.
“This year I’m hitting a lot of bigger shows out of state with Caddy. I’m going to the American Qualifiers, Junior NFR Qualifiers, and a couple World Shows,” Wood said, “Then of course I’m still going to be chasing WPRA, and high school rodeo starts in September.”
Wood is just sixteen years old, and is going to be a senior at Petaluma High School this year. Her future plans post high school include more races of course, as well as the possibility of college rodeo.
“If my young horses really start to be successful I’ll be sticking with WPRA and bigger shows like the American Qualifiers. I’ve also looked into college rodeo and most [of] the schools I’m looking at have college rodeo, so Caddy could step into that as well,” Wood said, “A lot can happen in a year though so I’m just working on my young horses and hoping they become successful into whatever I decide fits best for them.”
