Event: Team Roping, Heading and Heeling
Hometown: Boerne, TX
Career Highlights: 3x NFR qualifier (heading and heeling), Bob Feist Invitational Champion
Founder of Total Team Roping, Bret Beach has been a force to be reckoned with in the roping world for decades.
His pro tip for the up and comers is to spend your money where it counts: your mount.
“Buy the very best horse you can afford, spend your money on the horse. There’s a lot of people that rope good, but the horse can separate the same caliber ropers,” Beach said, “If you spend your money on a good horse, then you can be competitive under any conditions.”
In 1982, Beach DID have the best horse. In a foot of mud, he and Clay O’Brien Cooper cinched the Bob Feist Invitational title with the best horses in the arena.
“Three things stood out. First, it was the worst conditions ever. The worst that you could ever imagine. I had by far the best heeler and by far the best head horse,” Beach said, “All I could think is ‘good lord, please don’t screw this up.'”
Throughout his years of roping, Beach has never had a pad fit better than his Best Ever.
“I’ve never had a pad fit a horse’s back like this. They’re like a glove. I guess that’s why they call them the Best Ever!“
