Best Ever Pads – Made in America
By Deborah Donohue
Ask any pro rodeo cowgirl or cowboy, serious barrel racer or reined cow-horse trainer which saddle pad they recommend and you’re likely to hear the name, Best Ever!
COWGIRL Magazine has seen Best Ever Pads under the saddles some of the world’s most accomplished cowboys and cowgirls, but we wondered, in addition to the super-stylish designs, what actually makes a Best Ever Pad, well, the best ever? Meet Tammy and Ryan White, a husband and wife team with two of the most stellar resumes on the professional rodeo circuit (Ryan is a state champion team roper and six-time California Circuit finalist and Tammy is a barrel racer and the “winningest” female team roper in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association!). They dreamt of developing a unique enterprise and superior product that would celebrate the sport of rodeo and the western lifestyle they loved.
In 2002, the couple created their dream company, Best Ever Pads, “specializing in constructing custom made saddle pads for the western and rodeo industries.”
A decade later, the flourishing business is well-renowned for the quality, comfort and craftsmanship of their pads, each intelligently designed and hand-made to order by professional horsemen and horsewomen with decades of experience training and competing in the saddle. With an eye for bringing a personalized experience to rodeo competitors and organizations throughout the U.S., and backed by their irrefutable expertise, the Whites offer a selection of handsome western saddle pads with wear leathers made of top grade cowhide or leather.

In addition to contemporary styling and patterns such as zebra-printed cowhide, each pad is precisely cut to allow the cinch to mold naturally around the horse’s girth, creating closer contact for the rider’s legs. A cutout of the withers ensures proper wither clearance and helps eliminate equine spinal pressure. Comfort for both horse and rider is further enhanced by the two-piece contour design and superior fabric options: soft pliable high quality felt or firm, breathable and durable wool that will compress less under pressure. A quarter-inch, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial Neoprene bottom lining is also available, which adds additional shock absorption. Best Ever offers several collections and a variety of designs and sizes to meet the specific needs and tastes of each rider, horse and sport, and custom cuts can also be requested. Used alone of combined with a traditional Navajo-style saddle blanket, these top-notch pads are widely sought after by both elite rodeo athletes and everyday equestrian enthusiasts.

Tammy and Ryan White themselves exemplify the modern western lifestyle, having created a business born from their passions and based in the serene landscape of California’s Central Coast. Los Osos, an enchanting community just south of Morro Bay and north of San Luis Obispo, is home to both family and business. Weekends in the White household are spent navigating the challenging schedule of rodeo competitions for both Tammy and Ryan, as well as their young sons, Trey and Colton, who are both very active in junior rodeo. The family’s heritage can be traced back to Tammy’s father Lanny and grandfather Noel, both accomplished cowboys whose love and command of horsemanship reflect superbly through their lineage. Ryan White’s experience growing up on a working cattle ranch in Hawaii proved to be a prefect complement and the rest is history! We believe the White’s example of following your passion and the huge success of Best Ever Pads is inspiring evidence of for the adage, do what you love and the money will follow.
